Requirements
Must be at least 21 years of age with a high-school diploma or a GED, must possess a valid Oklahoma Drivers License, no felony criminal convictions, no convictions of domestic violence. Must be able to pass a background check and complete the Oklahoma Police Pension Physical requirements. CLEET certification is preferred. If not CLEET certified at the time of hire the recruit must attend and complete the Basic CLEET Academy in Ada, Oklahoma within six months of the date of appointment.
Field Training
All new recruits must complete our fourteen (14) week Field Training Program (FTP) if selected. This program ensures standardized training and evaluation to facilitate the transition from the academic setting to the actual performance of general law enforcement duties; and introduces the policies, procedures, and operations of the Fort Gibson Police Department.
The FTP consists of seven different phases of training. During which time the probationary officer (PO) will be placed with an FTO (Field Training Officer). The PO will be evaluated at each step of the FTP. Completion of the FTP is the very last step in the hiring process.
Applications
Applications may be downloaded or picked up at the Police Department. All applications must be completed fully and returned in person. Make sure to attach all documents requested along with the application. The Fort Gibson Police Department does not and shall not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion (creed), gender, gender expression, national origin (ancestry), marital status, sexual orientation, or military status, in any of its activities or operations.
Reserve Applications
The application for Reserve Officer is the same packet as the full-time Officer's. The requirements are:
- Must Be at Least 21 Years of Age
- Possess a Valid Oklahoma Drivers License
- No Felony Criminal Convictions
- No Convictions of Domestic Violence
- Must Be Able to Pass a Background Check
- Attend and Complete a Basic CLEET Reserve Academy
